First and foremost, welcome to LEK
As an inaugural post, I would like to share my story about Laughing Eyes Kennels.
I struggled with Schizoaffective Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and Attention Deficit Disorder for the majority of my life. Psychiatric treatment was only partially effective, and I often felt alone and without hope. Laughing Eyes Kennels changed my life.
I received my psychiatric service dog, Domino, in October of 2014.
At the time of this writing, I still struggle with mental illness, I still suffer from psychosis sporadically, I still lie in bed for days on end, I still hold my chest tight with anxiety, I still have trouble learning and staying focused.
But I am not alone.
When I have a psychotic attack, I can still feel the warmth of Domino’s fur, anchoring me to reality.
When I sleep for 12 hours at a time, Domino paws me awake, and takes me on walks.
When I am overcome with paranoia and anxiety, unable to say hello to strangers, Domino speaks for me.
When I am desperately trying to build a website, and fear it may never come to fruition, Domino licks my hand, and reminds me that whoever may not understand me, I will always have a furry friend-
by my side, and in my heart.
