Partners Taryn McCain and Cody Traver founded Laughing Eyes Kennels in 2007 to breed and train service dogs for persons disabled by conditions affecting their mobility and psychiatric wellness. Laughing Eyes is a New Mexico nonprofit corporation, with 501c3 public charity status granted by the IRS. All of the Officers and Board Members serve without compensation.

LEK is devoted to helping not only those with disabilities readily seen (like difficulty walking), but also sensory and psychiatric disabilities that render daily life a struggle. Our clients have medically diagnosed conditions that include anxiety, bipolar disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), obsessive compulsive disorder, schizophrenia, autism and severe depression. LEK founder and Army veteran, Cody Traver, is also dedicated to helping those with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), particularly service veterans and those who have suffered abuse. LEK is devoted to helping all of these individuals find ways of coping with their disabilities, assisted and nurtured by a service dog trained in tasks they find supportive.
